The American-style kitchen is Italian

A Maistri double-island kitchen for the Hughes Residence (re)designed by Terry Boling, in the center of Cincinnati

The renovation of a private residence of 350 square meters, on four levels of a tiled building from the late 1800s in the historical center of Cincinnati.
The project by the architect Terry Boling, besides the conservative restoration of this part – set aside for the bedrooms, the studio and the bathrooms – also includes the construction of a new volume, entirely devoted to the living area and kitchen. An addition of over 100 square meters that displays its contemporary character in the layout logic with an open plan, ceilings two stories high, and intense luminosity accentuated by the total white of the furnishings, along with a stylistic language that connects spaces and functions, from the entrance to the elegant courtyard reached by way of a very large glazing.

The main protagonist, due to its area and its aesthetic lightness that meets expectations of efficiency and functional quality, is the Cincinnati kitchen. Specifically, here we see the Viva model, chosen by Boling for its “architectural vocabulary, and the range and quality of the materials.” The model adapts well to the linear scheme of the interiors, also in chromatic coordination with the overall décor.
The space organized by the architect to respond to the owners’ passion for cooking has two islands – for a total of over 6 square meters – and a large pantry, which make the kitchen comfortable and functional for the gestures of its users.

In spite of its variegated parts, the composition is orderly and essential, relying for uniformity on the matte ecru lacquer finish of the doors, and the Sand Grey granite finish of the polished tops. Furthermore, the particular 45° cut patented by minotticucine and now used in the kitchens of the Maistri range (a brand of Asso Group), makes the lines particularly ‘clean’ because it eliminates the opposition between door and top, making them all part of the same unit.
