The Coronavirus puts Salone del Mobile in quarantine

Covid-19 wins the battle against the Salone del Mobile, which has been forced to announce the suspension of the 2020 event and the dates for next year

In an official communication this afternoon, the board of directors (remotely, of course) of FederlegnoArredo informed exhibitors of the Salone del Mobile that due to the ongoing health emergency connected with the Coronavirus, the fair in Milan will not be held this year, and shifts its focus to 2021, from 13 to 18 April.

The Salone is the latest victim of Covid-19, after the cancellation until next year or the postponement until the fall of all the international fairs.

The move had been a vivid possibility for quite a while, as indicated in the press release this morning. The psychological but also concrete situation of the companies in this sector, and the uncertainty regarding the influx of visitors, made it improbable that the Salone could have been a success on the already revised schedule.

At this point, the fears that in any case surrounded the event in Milan have to be replaced by creativity and programming, with plenty of reactive energy (a historic virtue of our small and medium businesses). Emotional responses and disorientation have to give way to reflection and action.

The government has to do its part, but the sector has to gear up more than ever before, examining markets, selecting objectives, identifying alternative approaches and making investments in an intelligent way. It can be done! So in the meantime, let’s prepare “comme il faut” to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Salone del Mobile – next year.
