When the States speak Swedish. Hem, a success story on the Scandinavian scene, opens its first showroom on the East Coast of the United States, in New York. The space is inside a loft of about 230 square meters, at 460 Broome Street, SoHo.
The New York studio of the brand based in Stockholm is a creative space with a domestic atmosphere, where by appointment visitors have a chance to examine the new collections and iconic products, making direct purchases for delivery that same week.
Furthermore, the space is a dynamic hub for the local creative community, presenting installations on a rotating schedule featuring the classic pieces by Hem. For example? The site-specific installation commissioned to Chen & Kai, the Brooklyn-based design studio of the duo Chen Chen and Kai Williams.
The Phalanx is placed at the entrance to the showroom and welcomes visitors with its theatrical presence. The work measures about three meters and is formed by 20 mirror-finish panels made with silver nitrate and glass. The piece is hypnotic because the reflections change with any shift in the vantage point.
