On the outskirts of Plasencia, in Extremadura, the convention center and auditorium designed by SelgasCano is an overhanging structure, like a stone about to roll away. Celestial, off-scale. The concrete and wood volume, ‘clouded’ by sheets of EFTE cladding, rests only to a small extent on the ground, in correspondence to the area set aside for the stage of the auditorium and part of the seating.
While the impression from the outside is that of an object alien to the context, like a work of Land Art, from the inside the transparency of its light skin – even when it’s orange – activates a symbiotic and ‘efficient’ bond with the surrounding landscape.
