In Stockholm design was in the spotlight well before 1951, the year when a group of local companies organized what is now known as the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair for the first time. Over the years the fair has evolved in keeping with design trends and the logic of the market, constantly growing and becoming a fundamental appointment for sector professionals. The companies taking part in the 70th iteration paid homage to the fair by presenting items featuring details inspired by northern European design or – as in the case of Flos – reissues of products from those years.

Respect for the environment is a fundamental value for the Scandinavian countries, so it was only logical to find many sustainable offerings at Stockholm Design Week. The 24 HOURS tour of IFDM winds through not only the booths at the St Eriksmässan Exhibition Center, but also the streets of the city.

FLOS
Stand A10-20

The Bulbo lamp was designed in 1957, not for series production but for an installation at the XI Triennale in Milan. When one lamp was connected to others in a series for this exhibition, the light output drastically reduced and the internal filament turned a reddish hue, giving off a low-intensity, warm ambient light. The 2019 edition by Flos reproduces its filament in tungsten with an LED source, preserving the same warm, comfortable temperature of the light, exactly as in the original.

BOLON
Stand C07-41

In Stockholm the brand of flooring was playing on home turf. Its new approach is called The Art of Performance, a sustainable attitude that rediscovers and reinterprets beauty and function inside already existing product lines. Versatility of design, easy cleaning and durability are the key factors for Bolon, which during the course of 2020 will present new assortments linked by a focus on art.

LACIVIDINA
Stand A12-18

Eye-catching, intelligent, modular and versatile, Waves is the new collection designed by Constance Guisset for LaCividina. The seating selection stems from the creative vision of the French designer, who has always been renowned for her ability to conceive products with bold shapes and fun colours that are capable of adding a sense of verve and harmony to all public and private settings.  Taking inspiration from the paintings of the American artist Georgia O’Keeffe, Constance Guisset has created a seating range that calls to mind natural landscapes with an endless array of gentle lines conveying peace of mind.

CONTARDI
Nordiska Galleriet, Nybrogatan 11, 114 39 Stockholm, Svezia

The lighting brand is the protagonist of an exhibition at the Nordiska Galleriet shopping centre. Among the furnishings we highlight the Arcipelago collection composed by hanging and table lights. Available in two shapes called Maiorca and Minorca, characterised by the shade made out of the fire-resistant Trevira CS fringes and the body in real polished brass. The light source is a customized dimmable LED board, which, in the table version, can be regulated through a three-phase dimmer switch positioned on the base.

ADJECTIVES
Bukowskis, Berzelii Park 1

The installation Adjectives by Note Design, made in collaboration with Vibia, Kvadrat and Mutina, had the aim of bringing back to light the furnishings of the prestigious archives of Bukowskis, in a different perspective. Visitors could discover the various spaces, enlivened by textiles and ceramics, lights and shadows, objects and empty spaces. A path that reflects the character of the companies that contributed to create it: delicate yet strong, elegant and – above all – intimate.

PEDRALI
Stand A07-19

For the 11th year Pedrali takes part in the Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair, in a lively booth featuring the Tamara suspension lamp. The brand pays tribute to Tamara de Lempicka, the modern painter who was an icon of avant-garde elegance. Made in coated aluminium, the lamp stands out for its soft form and rounded lines. It provides direct light, but also has an opening in the upper part and rounding at the side to transmit a delicate beam.

This is a proposal that offers versatility while playing with a wide range of options for personalization. For the occasion, it is also presented in a new version with a practical low back.

ARPER
Stand A13-20

Duna’s timeless silhouette is like a soft, enveloping flower—evoking the feeling of being held by a blossom. To complement Duna’s source of inspiration, Duna 02 has been reimagined in sustainably-made shell options made in a 100% recycled post-industrial material. The eco-friendly version is compatible with 4 leg base, in powder-coated steel or wood, and is available in anthracite color.

FILD
Stand A05-13

“We challenged ourselves to experiment and develop new ways of constructing design objects. For our new products, we were inspired and eager to create an alternative, unique suspension”, says the founder of the company.  BLT – derived from the word “belt” – is a new textile pendant and decorative component.  It’s a primal design element used in a variety of products, such as lighting, furniture and decor.  The branded belt is offered in 4 colors: Ultra Blue, Grey, Coral and Almond.

GEBRÜDER THONET VIENNA
Stand C05-33

“I wanted to create a unique indoor ladder of high decorative value that would also function perfectly”: this is how the designer Charlie Styrbjörn Nilsson presents Ladder. The piece has been made with the traditional method of steam bending of solid wood, giving the material greater strength. The particular form of the rungs has a dual function: it indicates where to put your feet, while accompanying you in the ascent.

CARL HANSEN & SON
Stand C12-39

Carl Hansen & Son expands its outdoor collection to include Børge Mogensen’s Deck Chair Series. The series was originally developed for the Danish designer’s own balcony in the late 1960s – simply because he needed functional and comfortable outdoor furniture that occupied the minimum of space. The Deck Chair Series comprises a deck chair with cushion and footstool, a side table, a tray, a dining table with matching chairs and a wall mount.

ET AL.

The new Ambit personalized seating system has been created for public spaces, waiting areas and hospitality. The multiple modules come in different heights and sizes, offering versatility and different compositional options. The designer Giovanni Levanti puts the accent on the materials: “The proportions and chromatic and tactile relations between the fabrics of its parts grant it an identity, generating ‘ambits’ of lightness and tranquility.”
