Elegance and experimentation reveal the latest trends in the contract sector, narrated at the tenth iteration of BDNY 2019

Authoritative names from all over the world present the quintessence of design for hospitality, in a two-day event that transforms the Javits Center in Manhattan into a showcase of creativity. A contemporary hub that conveys the new trends in the world of hotels through innovative furnishings, lighting, accessories, outdoor collections, wallpaper and 3D printing. For the occasion, Boutique Design and HX:Hotel Experience selected the Designer of the Year 2019: the studio AvrOko, a famous signature in the universe of hospitality, founded by Greg Bradshaw, Adam Farmerie, William Harris and Kristina O’Neal.

A lively, extraordinary event in which the excellence of the world of contract is concentrated in New York, for a global celebration of good design applied to hotels, restaurants, cruise ships, giving rise to a creative platform featuring talks, seminars, happenings and exhibitions.

On 10-11 November at the Javits Center in New York, the 10th edition of BDNY 2019 brought together the most highly acclaimed international and national companies of the contemporary era: from Moroso to Andreu World, Ethimo to Calligaris, Contardi to Dedon, Davis Furniture and Jaclo, just to name a few. Refined and experimental collections and products grabbed the coveted prizes in the Best of BDNY Product Design Competition, assigned to companies and designers that have excelled in the development of functional and aesthetic innovation.

Best in Show went to the company Contardi with the Babu outdoor textile lamp (design Massimiliano Raggi), while the winner of the Architectural Materials section was the brand Plyboo with its new Louver line of panels. The winner of the category Art & Accessories was ggg. Goldglassgalore created by New York-based See Studios; Best Fabric went to the Frame collection by the brand Opuzen, while Color, the chromatic and sophisticated faucets for the bathroom of the brand Jaclo, was chosen as winner of the Bath/Spa category.

The Best Seating prize was for the company Davis Furniture with its refined a-bench designed by jehs+laub, while Dedon and the extraordinary Rilly Cocoon Chair by GamFratesi Design were chosen for the best product award in the Outdoor section. The Woodform Concrete Slab Table by JM Lifestyles was the stand-out in the Furniture category, while the Wallcovering award went to the company CRAVEN DUNNILL JACKFIELD for Tavern Collection – Bar Lion. A particular partnership of Audrey Lane x Marc Thee presented by Trinity Surfaces won the Best Flooring prize. Finally, presented by Studio M, the lighting sculpture Rinkle – a custom collection of luminous objects in hand-shaped acrylic – took the Best Lighting award at the event in New York. In coordination with BDNY 2019, each year the most important prizes in the world of hospitality – the Gold Key Awards – are assigned, now at their 39th edition.

A gala is organized in the refined Cipriani New York, on 42nd Street. Best Eco or Socially Conscious Hotel was the category won by the Eaton in Hong Kong by AvroKO; Best Luxury Hotel went to the InterContinental Lyon-Hotel Dieu, designed by Studio Jean-Philippe Nuel; Best Resort went to Fairmont Maldives Sirru Fen Fushi, on the atoll of Shaviyani, an enchanting location created by Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA). In the world of hotellerie, the Best Suite is in Las Vegas, inside the Palms Casino Resort, designed by Rockwell Group, while the Best Lobby is in the Waldorf Astoria of Bangkok, created by the studios AFSO and AvroKO. For restaurants, the Fine Dining category went to The Zodiac Room at Neiman Marcus, in the new New York complex of Hudson Yards (design by AvroKO), and the Casual Dining prize was for The Heroic Deli and Wine Bar in Santa Monica, California, by the studio Preen, Inc. The Best Spa? It’s at the Mandarin Oriental Jumeira Dubai – with design by SilverFox Studios pte ltd of Singapore – a sublime temple of wellness in which to bask in unexpected wonder.
