The doors of the Visionnaire ‘chamber of wonders’ open once more for a new appointment with art. The Wunderkammer at Piazza Cavour in Milan welcomes the exhibition “Wild Mediterranean Island” by the photographer Daniele Lorrai, from 15 November to 9 December. The ‘wild lands’ seen in the images are those of the most uncontaminated zones of Sardinia, where the photographer was born and raised. The photos include many landscapes, but also glimpses of local fauna.
The themes of nature, biodiversity, culture and animals have always been important for Visionnaire, also as a source of concepts and inspiration. Not by chance, Lorrai’s show is in perfect tune with “Animalia” (the eclectic creations of Michele Astolfi and Enrico T. De Paris seen here in 2013) and “Affinity” (the solo show by the American photographer Brad Wilson, organized in 2016, featuring portraits of wild animals seen in the spotlights of a photography studio).
“Wild Mediterranean Island” on the other hand re-establishes contact with real, authentic nature. It reveals the most hidden, rare, intimate aspects, thanks to long hours of patient waiting and observation, filtered only by the camera. Within over 2000 kilometers of coastline, Sardinia contains an incredible number of native species (41 different mammals, over 300 various birds), and an extraordinary variety of panoramas and landscapes, from north to south: ancient forests, crystalline waterfalls, volcanic formation, canyons, mountain peaks, river valleys. Daniele Lorrai’s passionate work pays tribute to an ancient island and its natural wonders, also seen in a book of the same title, published by Angelo Careddu of Oberon Media, and presented during the preview of the exhibition on Thursday 14 November.
