On the path of light

Slamp opens a new headquarters to celebrate its 25th anniversary. A creative and productive hub, 8000 square meters at the gates of Rome

A monument to the history of a company and to those who contribute to its future, every day. The new Slamp headquarters pays homage to the past and at the same time becomes a futuristic project that sets out to accompany the brand across its next 25 years, and beyond. The celebration of the 25th anniversary of the founding of the firm coincides with the opening of the new facility at Pomezia, at the gates of Rome, the city that has always been the home of the brand.

A linear, apparently monolithic and rigorous work of architecture forms the setting for 8000 square meters of space for production, the creative hub and the company’s showroom. Inside, an osmotic layout plays with transparency and interaction, encouraging contact between the various divisions (Design and R+D interpenetrate in the production area, marketing encounters sales and administrative offices, and a networking zone accessed from all the sectors faces the prototyping area), but also maximum input of natural light.

This is not a paradox for a lighting company, but a careful choice to conserve a sense of contact with the natural world, and with the lively atmosphere of Rome, underscored by a green and even artistic approach: “We have opted for an external architecture in the ‘data center’ style of Silicon Valley, but we have contaminated with colorful works of art, like the perimeter sculpture by Jacopo Foggini that seems to transform the company into a rocket at dusk,” says the founder and CEO of Slamp Roberto Ziliani, who opened the doors of the new hub, sharing this accomplishment with over 600 guests at an exclusive event.

Palpable, electrifying, the atmosphere of familiarity and convivial enjoyment invaded the new home of Slamp, guiding the guests along the “Path of Light,” a sensorial and experiential itinerary through the production lines, to discover how a Slamp lamp is made, from the concept to the theatrical presence in the showroom design by the art director Luca Mazza.

The path through the company is a revealing one: starting with prototyping, proceeding to digital printing techniques and cold cutting (the company has as many as 7 machines for this), and culminating in the 30 assembly lines, where the ‘tailors of light’ construct the models of the Slamp collection (the ‘live’ demonstration focused on the workmanship that goes into bestsellers like Clizia and Veli, and the very new Nuvem collection).

Named as an innovative small-medium business in 2018 by MISE, Slamp relies for part of its unique character on the use of technopolymers extruded in thin, flexible sheets, with an eye on environmental sustainability (the working of the technopolymers takes place without CO2 emissions, while the production of scrap is reduced to a minimum). But there is more behind this totally Italian entrepreneurial reality: to use the words of its founder, it is “the empathy and energy of the people who are a part of the company.”
