“We are proud to be back in Beijing this year with a larger selection of greater impact, to promote Chinese and international design.”
With these words the director of Design China Beijing, Zhuo Tan, presents the second edition of the fair. The event happens from 12 to 16 September, as part of the program of Beijing Design Week, inside the National Agricultural Exhibition Center.
The number of exhibitors has doubled with respect to last year, when about 100 brands took part. The goal is to boost the number of visitors, after the 19,000 entries last year. The organizers have decided to focus on two main themes: sustainability and crafts. “For 2019 the spotlight is on sustainability, because of its strong influence on contemporary design processes in China. Furthermore, I want to pay homage to our community’s commitment in this area,” Zhuo Tan says.
One of the many new developments for 2019 is the Green Room of 4000 m2, a lush and ecological gathering place for visitors, in which to relax and recharge during the fair. The talks are also of particular interest, with exceptional speakers such as the designers Fabio Novembre and Sebastian Herkner. There are also many satellite events and initiatives in the center of Beijing.
Many Italian companies will be taking part in Design China Beijing, including Cassina, Slamp, Zanotta, Caccaro, Natuzzi, Versace Home, Medea, Boffi and Martinelli Luce. International exhibitors include the debuts of Volevatch, a French brand specialized in bath furnishings, the German appliance brand Gaggenau, and the Japanese Kawajun, which creates decorations for interiors.
