Surprise effect by Preciosa Lighting

It’s a period full of new developments for the Czech company: from the HD Award for Lighting to the opening of a showroom in Shanghai

2019 has been a busy but rewarding year so far for Preciosa Lighting. The company specialized in the production of glass chandeliers recently won the HD Award for Lighting thanks to the interactive installation Pearl Wave, presented at the Monaco Yacht Show 2018.

An even bigger gratification for the brand, considering that the other finalists were renowned firms like Foscarini, Vibia and Architectural Area Lighting: “We are so pleased Pearl Wave has been selected as the winner in the lighting category, especially considering the experience of our fellow finalists”, says Michael Holy, Managing Director of Preciosa North America.

Pearl Wave is composed of over 700 handmade opaline triplex spheres suspended on metal posts finished in gold: when guests propose a toast, the installation responds by blinking. A simple gesture brings Pearl Wave to life in a way that is just as surprising as its versatility: “Pearl Wave works beautifully on a yacht or in any public space; with an interactive element, or simply as a piece of lighting art. It is the perfect example of how Preciosa connects people through light”, Holy explains.

The light echoes the sounds generated by its environment, creating various luminous effects; the larger the group around the table, and the more they interact, the more Pearl Wave comes alive. The installation can be customized using different materials and suspension units. Furthermore, the form can also be designed to suit the space in which the installation will be placed.

At the same time, Preciosa’s program of internationalization continues. The Shanghai Home Expo and Tiamantti, the renowned dealer in premium interior design, welcome the new showroom of about 90 square meters. Inside, the facility displays eight chandeliers and six lamps, all produced in Crystal Valley, Bohemia, the home of Preciosa Lighting: “We believe that professional designers and decorators can all find something to love in our classic and contemporary creations,” says Marek Hlavenka, Managing Director of Preciosa Asia.

The products on view at the space also include new developments for 2019. Preciosa has created both classic and modern chandeliers, such as the Gemma model designed by Daniel Szollosi. The designer himself points out the possibilities: “I imagined a contemporary, classy design that could be used on a reading table, in a reception area, or on a table in a restaurant.”

The George model, on the other hand, is more traditional, drawing inspiration from English style with carefully concealed structural parts, bringing out the fascinating details of the chandelier, together with its elegant geometric forms.
