Lema furnishes Scotland Yard

The historic headquarters of the English police becomes a 5-star hotel: 153 personalized rooms with custom furnishings by Lema UK Contract

Looking for an unforgettable vacation? Here’s a new address: from now on, it is possible to sleep in London in the historic police station of Scotland Yard, near Westminster Bridge. The prestigious building that was once the headquarters of the police force becomes a 5-star hotel, the Great Scotland Yard.

This is the first English luxury hotel to become part of the Unbound Collection of Hyatt, the line that contains exclusive properties all over the world. The opening is slated for summer, after the total restoration that took over three and a half years, supervised by the developer Galliard Group and developed by Twenty Fourteen Holdings with the participation of LuLu Group.

The hotel is a trip back in time thanks to refined stylistic details – shields, glass and metal emblems – that link back to the site’s history.
The facility now contains a refined restaurant, a secret whiskey bar that suggests the days of the Temperance movement, a library, a fitness center, a cocktail bar, a hall in Palm Court style, a ballroom and a tearoom.

Seven levels for 153 rooms furnished by Lema Contract with tailor-made furniture, in a project by the architecture firm EPR Architects. Lema has worked on the design, development and installation of all the fixed furnishings in the rooms, providing custom wardrobes, TV units, bath furnishings in wood and wooden doors for the guestrooms and in the main corridors.
“Great Scotland Yard confirms our versatility in the world of contract once again,” says Angelo Meroni, president of Lema.

“The expertise we have developed in almost 50 years of work and the force of an organized structure across the territory enable us to respond to the technical and stylistic requirements of any project, including major challenges like the Lutetia and Great Scotland Yard. Our strength lies precisely in our ability to interpret the vision of the designer, guaranteeing custom solutions, combining various forms of expertise, as also expressed in the motto of Lema Contract: You Think, We Make.”

An important achievement for Lema UK Contract, a partner well-suited to working across the Channel: the company has a dedicated team operating in two hubs, at the headquarters in Giussano, Brianza, and that of Lema UK in London. Lema is also completing other projects including 20 Grosvenor Square, the residential complex of 37 apartments in the heart of the Mayfair district.

“The direct presence on the territory has turned out once again to be a strategic plus,” says Umberto Salon, managing director of Lema UK. “In such a complex project, it was particularly important for the developer to be able to rely on a partner capable of handling the various phases, rapidly formulating custom solutions.

Lema’s ability to oversee the entire chain of production and logistics, taking on the role of a general contractor, has permitted us to emerge in just a few years in London, a worldwide contract hub where the need to respond to a growing demand for turnkey projects led us to open the Lema UK branch in 2012, followed by the flagship store in Chelsea in 2015, conceived precisely as a showcase for the two spirits of Lema: Home and Contract.”
