A showcase of Italian lifestyle

Oak celebrates 40 years of activity with a collaboration with Marco Piva. The architect revealed the inspirations behind the new New York Suite collection and the design of the new showroom in Milan

1979-2019: a 40-year history that now opens a new chapter. Oak celebrates this anniversary with two new collaborations with outstanding figures in the world of design, Mario Bellini and Marco Piva. The latter, in particular, has done the design of the company’s booth during Salone del Mobile.Milano, and the showroom in that city on Via Fatebenefratelli.

Piva has also created the New York Suite, a new collection composed of tables, chairs, sofas, consoles and mirrors, made with the most refined materials and textures, in an elegant combination of modern, unique forms and volumes. The series suggests prestigious homes, penthouses facing the most famous avenues of Manhattan, inimitable hotels around the world that have become the sets for unforgettable films, luxurious offices high above Central Park: “In the thinking behind New York Suite the aim was to emphasize the typically Italian ability to approach design and to represent it on an international level – Marco Piva told us. – The distinctive characteristic of the collection is Italian lifestyle, clearly recognizable in the use of materials, mixed in a harmonious, refined way, and also in the versatile way of interpreting spaces by working on the three dimensions, from the architectural cladding to the interior surfaces, all the way to the product. A process covering 360 degrees, from the paneling to the sartorial details of the stitching.”

Marco Piva wanted to represent the Italian lifestyle (he calls it an “innate taste for beauty”) and to literally showcase it at the Oak store: “The idea was to portray Italian lifestyle and put it on view to convey that sensation to visitors and passers-by, transmitting its identity and its way of interpreting spaces.”

The collaboration began in the most natural of ways: the company and the studio share in a single vision of the world of interior design (as well as the detailing of contract furnishings), concentrating on fine workmanship of exceptional materials, leading to the creation of refined, elegant spaces.

The architect also offered remarks on the 58th edition of Salone del Mobile.Milano: “The fair continues to operate at the highest level, presenting a new concept in pavilions 22 and 24, which were extremely interesting because they were based on very intensive research on materials, components and everything that gravitates around the world of furniture, aspects which for a designer contribute to make the visit particularly stimulating, for a different, transverse perspective on the latest trends.”
