From 21 to 23 May, Clerkenwell Design Week is back with a design festival that pays tribute to the creativity of this lively district in London. The tenth edition is a special one, featuring a variegated calendar of events, presentations, installations and exhibitions.
Starting with Decade, ten street totems, three meters high, to mark this anniversary and to guide visitors through the festival itinerary. Or Once upon a time, a series of graphic pieces to interpret the history of the zone, made by the students of the Chelsea College of Arts, discovered on foot in special tours organized for the occasion. Don’t miss any of the seven exhibition sectors: British Collection with the best of English creativity, in the crypt of St. James’s Church; Design Fields, in the northern part of Clerkenwell at Northampton Road, hosting big names in furniture like Thonet, Tacchini and La Cividina; Light, with new lighting developments in the novel location of Fabric, the City’s most famous club; Elements, presenting architectural components in a street market at St. John’s Square; Detail, focusing on excellence in the field of luxury interiors, in the Museum of the Order of St. John; Platform, a showcase for new talents in the basements of the former House of Detention; Project, at the Garden of St. James, with proposals for large projects such as offices and shopping malls.
Finally, visitors can attend Talks with designers in the Moth Pavilion, a structure whose large canopy in recycled fabric seems to soar like a moth over Spa Fields Park.
