To enter the immense and evocative space of the new 1stdibs gallery inaugurated on the 7th floor of the Terminal Stores Building in Chelsea (where Wanted Design is held during the design week) feels like being projected into an authentic “wonderland” of vintage and contemporary objects and furnishings, unique pieces, custom furniture, icons of Made in Italy design, Gufram pop, brands including Vitra, radical design, rare and antique furniture presented by over 50 exhibitors.
An authentic design hub imagined by the architect Davies Toews, who transformed the industrial archaeology space of the Terminal into an authentic design emporium: 4500 square meters in which is possible to discover, buy, know, touch real treasures created by international figures of the design culture.
“1stdibs is the first design hub in New York where designers and consumers can buy, learn, touch, see and be inspired,” says David Rosenblatt, CEO of 1stdibs. “The Gallery presents antiques, vintage, custom, and the most exclusive contemporary creations… We are multi-channel because that’s who our customers are. Among the exhibitors, Christie’s, Fernando Mastrangelo Studio, Galerie Philia, Gallery ALL, Global Lighting, Greenwich Living Antiques, Gufram, Nanimarquina, Vitra, Wexler Gallery, Modern Drama… renowned names presented through installations that will rotate throughout the year to offer a new viewpoint on excellence.
On the occasion of the opening, are displayed “Another view n.14 on the Ganges during Monsoon” video installation provided by the Galleria Rossana Orlandi; “Arrangements by Michael Anastassiades”, custom-design lighting installation presented by Flos; “Italian Radical Design Icons” by Gufram; “King of Blue” stylish living room created by Brooklyn’s studio Chang & Co; “The Line of Beauty” by Archers of Los Angeles as well as the exhibition “Deeper than Text” organized in collaboration with the Female Design Council with innovative pieces by 19 artists… in an all-female exhibition.
