1stdibs: new design gallery in West Chelsea

The new gallery designed by architect Davies Toews inaugurates in New York. The space houses both vintage and contemporary objects and furnishings

To enter the immense and evocative space of the new 1stdibs gallery inaugurated on the 7th floor of the Terminal Stores Building in Chelsea (where Wanted Design is held during the design week) feels like being projected into an authentic “wonderland” of vintage and contemporary objects and furnishings, unique pieces, custom furniture, icons of Made in Italy design, Gufram pop, brands including Vitra, radical design, rare and antique furniture presented by over 50 exhibitors.

An authentic design hub imagined by the architect Davies Toews, who transformed the industrial archaeology space of the Terminal into an authentic design emporium: 4500 square meters in which is possible to discover, buy, know, touch real treasures created by international figures of the design culture.

On the occasion of the opening, are displayed “Another view n.14 on the Ganges during Monsoon” video installation provided by the Galleria Rossana Orlandi; “Arrangements by Michael Anastassiades”, custom-design lighting installation presented by Flos; “Italian Radical Design Icons” by Gufram; “King of Blue” stylish living room created by Brooklyn’s studio Chang & Co; “The Line of Beauty” by Archers of Los Angeles as well as the exhibition “Deeper than Text” organized in collaboration with the Female Design Council with innovative pieces by 19 artists… in an all-female exhibition.
