60 years of evolution

Illulian celebrates the important milestone by creating the ‘Evolution’ Special Edition. Cocarde and Kintsugi rugs are also previewed at the Salone del Mobile

The 2019 edition of the Salone del Mobile.Milano is a milestone in the history of Illulian. The historic brand, internationally renowned in the field of design and luxury complements this year celebrates 60 years of activity.

“Ours is a history that has distant roots, started by our grandfather and successfully developed by our parents. An important legacy, a precious cultural and artisan background that has been handed down to us with passion and competence with the aim of creating not only unique and distinctive rugs but also ones that are capable of transmitting emotions and handing down stories”, say Bendis and Davis Ronchetti Illulian, owners of the brand.

A success that derives from the continuous research both in the processing of the products, and in the conceptuality that finds its maximum expression in Evolution, the special edition rug created especially for this important anniversary.
It is a real work of art defined by a surprising design that captures the two souls of its collections in a single frame: antique and modern.
Mankind, by definition, has always been set before a crossroads between tradition and innovation: Illulian has instead decided to combine the two choices in a single rug.
A development of the hand-knotted rug that marks the evolution from the asymmetry of the odd knot, dating back to the Persian tradition, to the formal order of the contemporary knot, metaphorically marking the passage between the generations of the Illulian family.

In addition, the Milanese trade fair will host the premier launch of Cocarde, the new carpet exclusively designed for Illulian by Cristina Celestino and Kintsugi by the Illulian Design Studio.
Both are handmade with Himalayan wool, pure silk and vegetable-based colours, the first belongs to the Limited Edition series, while the second belongs to the Design Collection.
Cocarde is inspired by a delicate textile microarchitecture, the rosette. The volutes of the rosettes give it the appearance of a small rosette, where the regular movement of the ribbon plays with the contrasting colour fields.

Kintsugi takes its name and technique from the ancient Japanese art of repairing objects with the insertion of gold or precious metals that ennoble and enhance the fragments, thus adding a precious character to the product. In fact, the precious metal is inserted into the ‘cracks’ in the rug.
