Cetonia and Genea, the new 2019 collections, represent an entirely new product (the first) and the growth of a design (the second), confirming the earnestness of the journey which Passoni has undertaken as well as the determination that the company demonstrates in its work.
Cetonia, conceived by Swiss studio atelier oï, is a simple and elegant chair, in which technology exists but is hidden so as to not distract from its comfortable presence. “Cetonia is a chair that embodies a light and communicative sculptural style,” stated Armand Reymond, one of its creators. Two versions are available: one only in solid wood (either oak or ash) and the other incorporating a geometric and delicate cushioned seat.
Meanwhile, Genea was the first collection which atelier oï designed for Passoni. It was presented in 2018 and this year welcomes two new pieces: a sofa and two stools complete this set which was conceived primarily for furnishing bars and restaurants.
Now in its 61st year (and having participated in 56 editions of the Salone del Mobile), Passoni Design confirms its commitment to sustainability: from natural materials and certifications from the wood industry to the four coats of natural oil which every product receives and its ongoing work related to environmental-innovation. A demanding credo, especially in a country like Italy that is only moderately receptive.
The concept of sustainability has not yet entirely warmed the hearts of either industry or the national consumer, and it is, rather, abroad that Passoni Design meets with the greatest success. Over 98% of its revenue comes from other countries, with the United States at the top of Passoni’s export rankings.
