“I would like to welcome Karakter to Lifestyle Design. I believe that this company has extraordinary potential and I’m proud that it has chosen to join our family so that we may develop this project together.”
It was with these words that the CEO of Lifestyle Design (formerly Poltrona Frau Group which, with its companies Poltrona Frau, Cassina, Cappellini, Ceccotti, Janus et Cie, and Luminaire, has been controlled by the American group Haworth since 2014) announced the acquisition of the majority stake of this Copenhagen-based company specialised in the production of furniture, lighting, decorative objects for interiors, and gallery pieces.
Karakter’s founders, Christian Bjerg Elving and Kim Mekawi, will maintain their current positions as CEO and COO of the company, respectively, and stated: “With the legacy of design already present in our collection and the determination to create and promote future icons, we couldn’t have found a better partner than Lifestyle Design. The group’s enormous patrimony is one of the reasons for our decision. We can’t wait to start working with this extraordinary group of people and with companies that share our same objectives and values. We believe that Lifestyle Design can provide the platform and strength necessary to help Karakter grow into the international design brand that we aspire for it to become.”
But that’s not all. A new collaboration has been launched with Cassina, which will distribute Karakter’s products internationally through its sales network. “This contemporary design collection is an opportunity to offer an even more complete range of products for every home environment,” explains Luca Russo, CEO of Cassina. He goes on to say: “The company’s focus on creativity and collaboration with high calibre architects and designers like Castiglioni, Joe Colombo, and Mangiarotti, combine perfectly with the spirit of Cassina.”
