Stories of Architects and Architecture

Ceramiche Refin continues to promote debate and dialogue in the design industry with a new program of conferences curated by Emanuele Piccardo, scheduled to kick off on Thursday 7 March

There is no more effective way to grow, refresh, or innovate oneself than through dialogue, comparison, and interaction. Ceramiche Refin is well aware of this and is leading an initiative that promotes debate and dialogue in the design industry, the objective of which is also to pay homage to the protagonists of architectural history, like Paolo Soleri, Giancarlo De Carlo, Vittoriano Viganò, and the foundation of the radical night club Space Electronic by Gruppo 9999.

Stories of Architects and Architecture is a project curated by architecture critic Emanuele Piccardo which kicks off in March. The conferences will take place at Via Melone 2 in Milan, at Refin Studio, the institutional space of this company established in 1962. The series of events begins on Thursday 7 March with Paolo Soleri. Dall’inizio al deserto [From the Beginning to the Desert]: with the participation of Federica Doglio – architect, NABA; Luigi Spinelli – architect, Politecnico di Milano; Emanuele Piccardo – architecture critic, director of archphoto.it; and moderator Fulvio Irace. The meetings will continue throughout April and May, ending on 10 October with Radical Disco: Space Electronic.

But the initiatives don’t end here. The guided tours of Ca’ Romanino, in the Urbinati Hills, and of Villa “La Scala” in San Felice del Benaco on Lake Garda are events to be marked on the calender. The first of the two residences was designed in 1968 by Giancarlo De Carlo for philosopher Livio Schirollo and is the only private home designed by the architect. The second was built by Vittoriano Viganò for André Bloc, artist and director of the magazine L’Architecture d’aujourd’hui.

Finally, also in the program are tours of the Torre del Mare residential vacation complex, built in 1954 in Bergeggi, on the Italian Riviera, by architect Mario Galvagni, and of the Fabbrica Ceramica Artistica Solimene (factory of artistic ceramics) designed by Paolo Soleri in 1954 in Vietri sul Mare.

All of the events are, organised with the sponsorship of NCS Colour Centre Italia Srl, are targeted towards architects and design professionals and may be used for professional training credits.
