Design Shanghai, unstoppable force

Design Shanghai intends upon keeping step with the major international events, aiming at a quick and strong growth. There is space made for proposals, key personalities, creativity transformed in installations and products

To welcome this parterre of innovation, the exposition space of the Shanghai Exhibition Centre has been increased for the 2019 edition (6-9 March), for an additional 20%. A new thematic section will be introduced, New Materials and Applications Hall, which will augment the vast range of merchandise divided in Contemporary, Classic & Luxury, Collectibles, Kitchen & Bathroom and Workplace Design, for a total of over 400 brands expected to participate.
The contamination between international and local design is spread throughout the pavilions, generating a cultural exchange that follows also beyond the confines of the event, to involve the city in view of the Xintiandi Design Festival: the ‘show outside the show’ of Shanghai – this year in its third edition – involving the theme “Back to the Social Origin: Building Connections in the Real World”.

And it doesn’t stop here. The proposals continue with Design Shanghai Forum, a chance to focus attention on the relationship between craftsmanship and technology (the theme is in fact “Technology, Craft and Creativity – Friends or Enemies”) with the involvement of more than 40 national and international speakers, including Marcel Wanders, Kelly Hoppen, Jamy Yang and Lee Broom; and the first Kelly Hoppen International Design Awards, aimed at identifying the best of the industry through the various sectors of interior design (residential, hospitality, commercial, lighting and architecture) as well as the new talents.

“Design Shanghai continues to set the standards of the design industry in Asia – declares Mike Dynan, Managing Director of Media 10 China, the organising company – As the major trade event of the region, we are happy to involve the world’s and China’s best design brands, presenting to this international public also the high level of local talent. We have recently decreed the success of Design Shanghai with the launch of Design China Beijing”. The debut of the twin event of Design Shanghai took place last September in Beijing, in an explosion of design and art.
Therefore, the anticipation for the event in March is great, revived by a general design fervour of the city, opening itself up more and more to international design and to the most innovative arrivals. Here is a brief presentation of the brand new offerings on display.
