Creating an urban resort with a relaxed seaside vibe, the interior design of Mandarin Oriental Jumeira, Dubai is a true reflection of the dynamic city of Dubai: modern with a timeless soul.
The design was undertaken by renowned designer Jeffrey Wilkes who is recognised for his
vision of blending cosmopolitan influences with tradition and his pursuit of the highest
standards of design.

With the sparkling Arabian Gulf and pristine sandy beach on one side and the vibrant
metropolis on the other, the location is a true representation of Dubai. Inspired by the city’s multi-culturalism, and the way in which Dubai’s various facets manage to come together to form the identity of the city, is an integral part of the resort’s design.

As the entry point to the property, it was vital that the design of the lobby reflects the spirit of the hotel. This has been achieved with a contemporary layering of patterns and textures, warm woods and marble to create a minimalist, yet luxurious palette of colours and outlines.
Describing his design inspiration, Jeffrey explains, “As Mandarin Oriental arrives in the
Middle East, it has travelled along the Silk Road collecting thoughts and ideas along the way.
The gardens lead from the entrance through to the vast lobby, taking the form of water features, walkways, stone bridges and teak decks leading guests out to the beach.

Blurring the lines between outside and in, the pathway was designed to lead guests through a forest of light and crystal canopies evoking the ocean. Fourteen bronze metal trees standing seven, eight and nine metres high create a canopy of crystal and light that glisten and sparkle, just like the adjoining ocean. The overall effect is rich in texture and reflection, from the weathered travertine to the polished timbers, subtle leathers and shimmering bronzes. It is sophisticated, elegant and timeless.
