From Wednesday, May 23rd to Sunday, May 27th: five days of talks about evolution, changes and the future of cities, side by side with the most representative names of the sector on the international scene. This is Milano Arch Week, an event at its second edition directed by Stefano Boeri, promoted by the City of Milan, the Politecnico di Milano and La Triennale di Milano, in collaboration with the Fondazione Giangiacomo Feltrinelli.
The five-day event develops in a series of meetings, talks, conversations, guided tours, presentations, exhibitions and much more, grouped from a thematic point of view in three locations: the Politecnico and the Triennale deal with the theme “Urbania, uno sguardo sul futuro delle città” (Urbania, a look at the future of cities), from the design and architectural angle, in a reflection on the evolution of architecture and urban complexity; at the Giacomo Feltrinelli Foundation, the focus shifts to the implications of urban transformations on citizenship, with the agenda of “About a city. Places, ideas and rights for 2030 citizens”: growing diversity as well as cohabitation, minority rights, access to services; digital advancement, technological infrastructure and the intangible dimension of the urban future; solutions linked to sustainability and resilient green-based approaches for urban design projects respectful of nature.
International protagonists of the industry have been called to take part in the exhibition, including four winners of the Pritzker Prize, with lectures on different themes: Jacques Herzog (May 24th at 18.30, Fondazione Giangiacomo Feltrinelli), which will open the program of About a City, Kazujo Sejima (May 24th at 18.00, Politecnico di Milano), Whang Shu (May 26th at 18.00, Triennale di Milano) and Toyo Ito (May 27th at 21.00, Triennale di Milano).
But important names also take part in the Conversations, dialogues between two leading figures in the world of architecture and design: Jacques Herzog & Stefano Boeri (May 24th at 20.00, Fondazione Giangiacomo Feltrinelli), Francesco Librizzi & Cino Zucchi (May 26th at 17.00, Triennale di Milano), David Adjaye & Stefano Boeri (May 27th at 21.00, Triennale di Milano), Paola Antonelli & Joseph Grima (May 27th at 19.00, Triennale di Milano), Alessandro Mendini & Michele De Lucchi on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of Domus (May 26th at 14.00, Triennale), just to name a few.
Milano Arch Week is also a guided tour – to the museum houses of some historic Milanese designers such as Caccia Dominioni and Magistretti or to iconic architecture buildings such as the MUDEC, Fondazione Prada and MAUA; it also features presentations of books and exhibitions, such as the solo exhibition on Carrilho da Graça at the Politecnico or the retrospective dedicated to Luigi Ghirri.
