MisuraEmme, the roots of design

The combination of new pieces and reissues for the living and sleeping areas shines a light on the current design ethos of MisuraEmme, with the focus on innovative experimentation with new finishes and material combinations

Research is the key word when it comes to analysing the design approach adopted by MisuraEmme as it has worked through the process of developing and expanding its collections. The brand has worked tirelessly to broaden its horizons, focusing on innovation and originality – two qualities that clearly shine through in its range of new products for the living and sleeping areas, which catch the eye on account of their refreshed aesthetics. Inspiration is drawn from textbook style commandments like sophistication, elegance and the use of multiple materials, while the stunning technical quality – hidden to the eye but at the heart of every design – takes things to the next level.

One of the best examples of this concept is the Over system for the living area, by Castiglia Associati. The distinguishing design feature is the rear panel, whose alternating sequence of wood panelling allows for the incorporation of different materials.
It means that the supports are liberated from the weight of the shelves and creates a number of modular compositions that can be placed side by side during the design process, thus simplifying the entire concept.
There is further experimentation in the bedroom, in the shape of two finishes new not only to the MisuraEmme collection, but to the entire closets sector. The system in question is Palo Alto, which features two stratified bronze glass panels of 3mm each, containing a layer of fabric, available in two versions: one in green linen and the other in a unique natural linen with silver-plated copper, which creates a particularly reflective, shimmering effect when it comes into contact with the cabinet light.

“Our intention was to create something unique – something that had never been seen before,” explains company owner Ottaviano Borgonovo. “The new concept for Palo Alto stemmed from the ambition to find a way to transform the cabinet into a divider that created a visual boundary between one room and another, yet let light filter through at the same time. The result is a truly original product that represents the culmination of a great deal of work in the design and development phases.” More new additions can be found in the materials and finishes used for the range of new and reissued products that accompany the larger systems at Salone del Mobile. Take the new shiny eucalyptus and elm finishes for the components, for example, or the nickel and brass used for the side tables, the new red Lepanto marble table top, metallic finishes in bronze-plated titanium or palladium for systems and the new Mandarin glass finish for the Ala table, now available in a larger 310cm version. MisuraEmme has brought together the living, dining and sleeping areas by choosing warm, elegant materials, combining contrasting tactical and visual sensations in what proves to be a supremely balanced product range.
