Villa La Coste perfectly harmonizes with the elements that surround it. The hotel, which is nestled among the vineyards of Chateau La Coste, offers outstanding hospitality to those looking for a unique experience. Guests can visit cellars and exhibition/recreational spaces designed by starchitects such as Jean Nouvel, Renzo Piano, Frank Gehry and Tadao Ando. They can admire open-air artworks by Louise Bourgeois, Alexander Calder, Paul Matisse and Ai Weiwei. They can savor the nectar of a land that grows grapes according to the principles of biodynamic farming.
Thanks to the work of André Fu’s AFSO firm, which designed all the public spaces, the hotel takes inspiration from the artisan nature of the setting, reinterpreted with a modern twist by Fu in a sort of contemporary Provençal style, which nonetheless follows tradition by using materials such as bleached oak, natural stone and marble.
Alongside the 28 villas that make up the hotel, the firm developed the main hall, bar, library, restaurant and spa using a distinctly luxury-oriented aesthetic language. The Pavilion Restaurant fully embodies this ‘vocabulary’ with a free-standing modernist structure that seems to float on water and is designed to celebrate the union between architecture and gastronomy, the latter of which is entrusted to the skilled hands of chef Gérald Passedat.
The other areas, which are all situated on the ground floor, also follow André Fu’s vision of discreet elegance that gives you the impression of being in an art collector’s private home. “My role was to evoke an atmosphere of intimacy and unostentatious luxury,” explains the designer, “by creating spaces designed for people rather than a purely formal environment.”
