Glass works designed between 1921 and 1926 reign supreme at the exhibition Vittorio Zecchin: i vetri trasparenti per Cappellin e Venini, at the Venini, Venice, from September 11th 2017 until January 7th 2018.
A retrospective curated by Marino Barovier, opening on occasion of The Venice Glass Week, which develops throughout the Stanze del Vetro, a permanent exhibition venue located in the former Isola di San Giorgio boarding school, in a unique cultural and productive route. A celebration of works by the artist who became artistic director at V. S. M. Cappellin Venini & C. at the end of 1921, the glass works founded by Paolo Venini and Giacomo Cappellin, today Venini, who has been tirelessly engaging in artistic endeavours for almost a century.
A selection of the most representative Venini masterpieces will be on display, designed by Vittorio Zecchin, from the vase Verona, inspired by the one in Paolo Veronesi’s Annunciation which has since become a symbol of glass art, to the vase Libellula, with its broad and light blown glass handles. We also have the sinuous forms of an amphora, along with the essential forms of a jug, or those reminiscent of a bell or trumpet. All these objects distinguish themselves immediately from others of the same period, in virtue of their proportions as well as their essential and classical lines. This patrimony has been conserved thanks to numerous permanent collections which have selected creations by Venini, as well as the Venini Museum itself, with its 45,000 drawings, 6,000 vintage photos and 4,000 works of art, constituting the most precious archive of modern and contemporary artistic glass works.
