For its 5th edition, Beirut Design Week 2016 took over Beirut from the May 20th to 29th under the theme “Growing Sustainably,” bringing together more than 180 local and international design studios over nine exciting days of events, workshops, and exhibitions. BDW 2016 started from its new, central location in Karantina called KED, which also housed international and local exhibitions and a pop-up store focusing on design for sustainability. KED, an abandoned factory that had lain unused for decades, is a five-story building that features a basement for sound and light installations and a rooftop, where the opening and closing parties also took place. During the BDW 2016’s first weekend KED hosted the BDW Talk series, which focused on how design can improve Lebanon’s current challenges through the adoption and promotion of sustainability.
