Has been announced the six winner projects for the fourth edition of Porada International Design Award; the contest – sponsored by the company in partnership with Consorzio del Politecnico di Milano – is directed to Professionals and Students categories. Every year the partecipats work on a theme – the latest edition was about Media Unit – that the company selects with the aim of presenting unpublished projects that enhance the use of production technologies and manufacturing processes typical of solid wood artisanal craftsmanship, always keeping in mind the conformity to functionality and ergonomic requirements.
The winners awarded not only a money prize, but also the possibility to see their projects within the Porada booth at Salone del Mobile.
First Professionals position for Philipp Schaake, who proposed Concept Balcony; it is a unit for Hi-Fi, TV and multimedia products with an innovative “balcony” area on the front of the cabinet
dedicated to storing the user’s remote controls or mobile phones.
Above the Students category Luca Nodari – from Politecnico di Milano – with Orbita; there are four main elements: a base, two rotary structures, and a tubular section that acts as a pivot. lack walnut and steel are matched in the unit that harks back to the designs of 1960s and’ 70s radios.
Male second position for both the categories: : Libero Rutilio for Professionals and Francesco Orsini among the Students, respectively ideated Tronco and Beat. The first one has a contemporary design which recalls the massive trunks of the forest; the beat music evokes the design of the namesake product, suspended TV media unit in black walnut.
Bronze medal among Professionals to Ivana Cvetkovi Lakoš, Croatian designer who won with Equilibrio; it is a free-standing multimedia unit, with sturdy legs and an oval panel of solid wood, a contemporary and minimalist reinterpretation inspired by old television sets. Idolo by Cristina Muto, student from Politecnico, has totemic shapes, designed for the centre of the room. Special mention to the projects Orizzonte by Maksim Nizov (Professionals) and Facet by Samuela Naticchi (Students).
New call for international designers: the fifth edition of the Porada contest considers international ideas to identify new innovative concepts on different types of coat hangers and wall-mounted and free-standing coat hooks, equipped or equippable. The use of wood is prevalent (but not necessarily exclusive), beside the environmental and sustainable requirements.
